Keeping It Cool During An Active Summer

Summer months mean heat and humidity in Florida, but it is still  important to meet your physical activity needs and this can be done in a fun, enjoyable, way.  Here are some ideas for getting in the recommended 30 minutes of moderate activity five days a week.

Summer Activities

The beach is always the cliché in the summer, change things up by trying:



• A sunset hike with Hillsborough Parks and Recreation.
• Maybe this is the year to try scuba?
• Enjoy cooler morning hours by doing yoga at sunrise.
• If the family does head to the beach, bring a kite or a ball and get a game going.

Summer Safety Tips

• Wear sunscreen every day all day.
• Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours or after swimming.
• Wear light colors.
• Hats and sunglasses protect the head and eyes.
• Hydrate! Drink plenty of water, even if you don’t feel thirsty.
• Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest time of day
 (between 1-4 p.m.)
