What’s Your Breakfast?
Do you start your day with breakfast? People who skip breakfast often weigh more. Eating a nutrient-dense breakfast may help you lose weight and keep it off.
From my childhood I remember my grandmother saying in her most disapproving voice, “you don’t eat breakfast? It’s the most important meal of the day, you have to eat breakfast.” However, for many years I did not listen to this advice, back then my opinion was that sleep was way better for me than breakfast. For those of you who also enjoy their sleep, I would like to admit we should listen to this not-so-old-fashioned advice.
The most frequent reason for not eating breakfast is time. Well, if you have to get the family ready or just need a few more minutes of sleep, breakfast does not need to take a lot of time. But fast shouldn’t mean unhealthy, a healthy breakfast helps start your day in a positive way. If you reach for a doughnut you are simply eating empty calories that could tempt you to keep going on that track all day long. So take a few minutes to prepare something low-fat, filling, and satisfying, and you’ll be more inclined to stay on the healthy path.
This advice doesn’t just apply to grown-ups. An article recently published in Medical News Today talks about a importance of starting healthy breakfast patterns early in life too.
